In 1892 Robert & Ann SEDDON had both died by 1889 when Arthur was about 12 years old. He suddenly went into Warehouseman Clerks School in Cheadle Hulme, now called Cheadle Hulme School. I wrote to the Headmaster and had the following reply:

'Our records show that Mr Arthur Seddon was born on 26th April 1877. He joined this school in February 1889 and left in July 1892. The home address when he came was his brother's address in Higher Broughton but at some stage this was changed to Heywood (both districts are on the north side of Manchester).

We do not have the date of Mr Robert Seddon's death, but as Arthur came in the middle of a school term it is likely that his father had died very shortly before February 1889 and the admission arranged hurriedly. We believe the family were members of the the Wesleyan branch of the Methodist Church - perhaps there are some Methodist records in Higher Broughton which could help.'(:CR.)1
