Transcription of Coroner's Report regarding Thos. Suffolk

Elizabeth Suffolk
2 Kales Buildings, Wheeleys Lane. Deceased - my husband named Thomas, galvaniser, aged 36. He worked up to Saturday dinner time last week came home at 5.30 that evening bread and butter and tinned salmon did eat a hurried tea. Went out about 7.30. He did not say where he was going. He returned at 11.30 rather tipsy he sometimes got drunk. He went to sleep in the chair in the kitchen downstairs and remained there about an hour. I woke him up at 12.30 and took him up to bed and he and I slept together. About 5 o'clock the next morning he woke me and told me to get up and said he did not feel well. I got up and asked him if he would have a cup of tea. He said 'yes'. I came down and lit the fire and went up again. He said 'Goodbye my wench God bless you I am dying'. I said 'Don't say that' but he said 'I am'. I then called his brother who lives in the same house. He came in and he said 'You had better go and fetch the doctor' and I fetched Mr Yates. He seemed to go dizzy and sweat at the forehead, he went off as though he fainted. His brother was present at death and he vomited just before he died not much.

Joseph Icke
Live with last witness, coach builder's vice-man. I am half brother to deceased and live at same address. She called me up on Sunday morning between 5 and 6. I went into his bedroom, I felt him and thought he was dead he was cold. I had seen him between 11 and 12 the night before, he was not very drunk.. I have never heard him complain of anything the matter with his heart or any illness before I was called up I had not heard anything.

George Yates
I saw deceased at 10 past 6 on Sunday morning. He was lying on the floor on the left side with his knees drawn up. There was no bedstead, there was an apology over the body on the floor with his knees abent quite dead. I have made an external examination of the body but I think the cause of death is syncope the failure of the heart's action until death. The vomiting would cause the fainting and the body is blanched.3
