This Edwin is 'very probably' Edwin Kinsey, who was Boarding with the Tipper family at the time of the 1911 Census. The Baptism entry implies that he was a 'Tipper', but Edwin's occupation is correct for Edwin Kinsey in the 1901 and 1911 censuses.6

     Mary Elizabeth Frost, daughter of Thomas Frost and Jemima Collier, was born in Newhall, Derbyshire, on Sunday, 31 December 1876, her Birth was Registered at the Burton Register Office in the Jan-Feb-Mar Quarter of 1876.1,2      Although she was Baptised as Mary Elizabeth she only ever used the name Elizabeth but preferred her pet name of Lizzy.      In 1897 at Burton on Trent Statutes (Hiring Fair) William Salt's sister Annie Salt, hired a kitchen maid, Mary Elizabeth Frost, to help her in the farm kitchen.
Lizzy Frost had first been sold into service by her parents when she was 13 years old. She had been hired for 9 pence by the Landlord of the Bull's Head public house / farm in Repton. In her first year she ran away home to Newhall twice.3


     Mary Elizabeth Frost, daughter of Thomas Frost and Jemima Collier, was married to John Tipper, son of John Tipper and Mary Clark, on Wednesday, 10 January 1900 at St. John's Church, Newhall, Derbyshire.
     St. John's Church Marriage Register Entry - "John Tipper, 21, Bachelor, Policeman of Staveley, son of John Tipper, Joiner & Mary Elizabeth Frost, 24, Spinster of Newhall, daughter of Thomas Frost, Collier. Witnessed by Thomas Tipper & Emily Reader."4,5,6,7 .
     Between 1900 and 1902, Lizzy Tipper and John Tipper lived in Spend Lane, Thorpe, Ashbourne, Derbyshire.8      As Thorpe is the gateway to "Dove Dale" it gave Lizzy the opportunity to earn a little extra cash by taking in paying guests.
     A Mr & Mrs Gough, who owned a pottery decorating firm at Stoke-on-Trent were such guests. For her daughter Mary's birth, Mrs Gough produced a cup and saucer bearing the legend 'Mary Elizabeth Tipper 1901' in gold on the cup's side. They produced another in the following year for her first birthday.
     Lizzy attended a sale at the 'Blue Bell Inn' at the Tissington end of Spend Lane and bid for a Lot comprising domestic items and accidentally acquired the water jug dated 12. 11. 1877.9


     The 1901 U.K.Census listed her as the Wife of the Head of Household - John Tipper, at Spend Lane, Thorpe, Ashbourne, Derbyshire, who is recorded as -

     Mary's entry for the 1901 Census was recorded as -
          Mary Elizabeth Tipper          Wife     Married     25     ---     DBY. Newhall.10

     In 1902, Lizzy Tipper and John Tipper lived in Ashbourne, Derbyshire.8
     Between 1902 and 1905, Lizzy Tipper and John Tipper lived in Primrose Cottages, Horsley Woodhouse, Derbyshire.8      It was here that their daughter, Mary, had double pneumonia and nearly died. The doctor's bill came to £5 and Lizzy had only 5/- to her name. Court action was threatened if prompt payment was not made. Lizzy borrowed the money from the local butcher, a member of Sam Ebb's family, who were local farmers at Hill Top Farm, Horsley Woodhouse. He refused to take repayment but asked Lizzy to clean one day a week for his wife at 2/6. Lizzy cleaned for 40 weeks to pay off the debt.
     When Sam Ebb's son, Saxton, also had pneumonia it was Lizzy who nursed him back to health. The families remained firm friends for several decades.11

     Between 1905 and 1907, Lizzy Tipper and John Tipper lived in 7 Chapel Street, New Mills, Derbyshire.8
     Between 1907 and 1912, Lizzy Tipper and John Tipper lived in The Police Station, Hayfield, Derbyshire.8

     Alice's entry for the 1871 Census was recorded as -
          Alice Cookson     Daughter     1     ---     HEF. Stretford.2 Please note that although the written Place of Birth states HEF (Herefordshire) I believe that this is an error by the Enumerator and should read LAN (Lancashire.)      I have not been able to locate suitable candidates on the 1881 Census that place either Alice or her stated father (MFJ 2005.)

     The 1881 U.K.Census  listed her as a daughter of the Head of Household - Margaret Cookson, at 16 Clarence Street, Broughton, Salford, Lancashire, who is recorded as -
