William Thacker

ID# 9183, born around 1872
Father*William Thacker born abt 1845
Mother*Elizabeth born 1845
William Thacker, son of William Thacker and Elizabeth, was born in Hartshorne, Derbyshire, around 1872, dates calculated from 1881 Census.

The 1881 U.K.Census  listed him as a son of the Head of Household - William Thacker, at Sand Hole House, Church Gresley, Derbyshire, who is recorded as -
William THACKER     M     36     M     Hartshorn, Derby, England     Rel: Head     Occ: Sand Carter.1

In the U.K.Census of 5 April 1891, William was recorded as residing at Buidlings Farm, Hartshorne, Derbyshire.
     William's listing is -
William Thacker     Serv.     Single     15     Farm Servant     DBY. Ticknall (in the Household of Henry Lowe, Farmer).2

William Thacker, son of William Thacker and Elizabeth, was married to Minnie Gertrude Bull, daughter of Charles Bull and Sarah Elizabeth Burns, in Derbyshire in 1895.
Their Marriage was recorded in the Burton Registration District in the Jul-Aug-Sep Quarter of 1895.3

In the 1901 U.K.Census, held on Sunday, 31 March 1901, William was recorded as the Head of the Household at Colliery, Bretby, Derbyshire, also in the Household were Minnie G. Thacker nee Bull and Ernest Eric Thacker,
the listing for the Household is -
; William Thacker     Head     Married     27     Gardener     DBY. Hartshorne.4
          ; Minnie G Thacker     Wife     Married     27     ---     STS. Burton.4
          ; Ernest E. Thacker     Son     5     ---     DBY. Bretby.5

William Thacker emigrated before March 1912 from Derbyshire; "Samuel and his family emigrated to Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada. On the manifest for the SS Canada, it has Samuel's listed reason for entry as: "to be with my brother (William)". It is presumed that if William and Minnie were still together, they would have emigrated to B.C. prior to March 1912. Significantly, however, I cannot find vital statistic entries for any of the William Thackers here in British Columbia. It is of interest , however, that William's nephew, William Thacker, (Ron Thacker's Grandfather), had an address book 1910-1950s listing (Ernest) Eric Thacker in Melton Mowbray, Leics. Perhaps the family soon emigrated back to England after their colonial soujourn or Minnie raised Ernest Eric alone after the divorce or death of William. What happened to William and Minnie has been lost over the years and is very intriguing to myself" - Ron Thacker, 2003.
