     In 1836, Rebecca's husband and father of her 3 children was convicted of the following:-
Quarter Sessions - Derby 1836
John GREGSON, Education imperfect, age 30, appeared County Assizes on 14 Mar 1836.
Crime - Horse stealing - Sentence:- Transportation for Life.

Following his actual transportation Rebecca probably fell upon hard times and it is speculated that her next child, John junior, may have been fathered by Scipio Roulston. The horse theft and attempted sale in Macclesfield, that John snr. was convicted of, was owned by Scipio Roulston of Longford.
Scipio had a reputation as a father to several illegitimate children in the area according to some bastardy cases that have been researched.
Scipio Roulston is very remotley connected to the BULL Tree and as such is already included on this website.

     Thomas is recorded as living alone on the U.K.Census of 2 April 1871 at Rodsley, Derbyshire. This Census included Thomas, as the only resident in the Household, as follows:

     In the U.K.Census of 3 April 1881, Thomas was recorded as residing at The Union Workhouse, Offcote & Underwood, Ashbourne, Derbyshire.
