     On 6 August 1851 Derby Mercury - Inquest. - Before Mr Mozley, Coroner, Yesterday, (Tuesday) August 6th 1851 on the body of Joseph Holloway of Hollington Aged 73 deceased on Saturday evening last. He was with his son on the top of a stack of hay nearly completed belonging to Mr Gilman of Ardsley when deceased slipped and fell to the ground a distance of about seven yards. He was for some time insensible. Mr Shipton, surgeon, was sent for and attended him until his death which took place the following night. The deceased's ribs on one side were broken by the fall. Verdict. Accidental Death.

     The original details for this family were derived from a Tree made for the HOLLOWAY family of Hollington, Co. Derby by Sir Thomas Phillipps in 1869. It has quite a few, understandable inaccuracies, given the date that it was produced. With the help of Heather Eaton we have been able to re-assemble the family using current information, not available to Sir Thomas Phillipps at the time.


     George Holloway, son of George Holloway and Rebecca Yates, was born in 1787.
     He was Baptised on Monday, 19 February 1787 in St. Chad's Church, Longford, Derbyshire .1
     

     George Holloway was married to Elizabeth Stote about 1812.

     In the U.K.Census of 6 June 1841, George was recorded as residing at Winchcomb Street, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.

     In the U.K.Census of 30 March 1851, George was recorded as residing at Middle Hill, Broadway, Worcestershire.

Transcription of Will of THOMAS HOLLOWAY

This is the last Will and Testament of me Thomas Holloway of Spondon in the County of Derby. Farmer. as follows, namely I devise and bequeath all the real and personal Estate to which I shall be entitled at the time of my decease unto my son Thomas Holloway for his absolute use subject to the payment thereof of my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses and of the pecuniary legacies bequeathed by this Will and by any codicil hereto together with the legacy duty and expenses incident to the receipt of such legacies.

Daughter Elizabeth Kitchen wife of John Kitchen Derby Labourer £50. Daughter Rebecca Marsden wife of Edward Marsden Spondon Gardener £50. Natural Daughter Ann Holloway Daughter of said Elizabeth Kitchen £19.19s. Thomas Gaskin son of Rebecca Marsden by her first husband £19.19s

I direct that the aforesaid legacies shall be paid at the end of six calendar months after my decease.

To each of my grandchildren :
Thomas Bennett. Elizabeth Ann Bennett. Mary Bennett. Georgina Bennett. children of my late daughter Mary Ann Bennett. £ 12.l0s to be vested as to the said Thomas Bennett upon his attaining the age of 2l yrs and as to the said Elizabeth Ann Bennett, Mary Bennett and Georgina Bennett in their respectively attaining that age or being married.

I declare that the legacy which any person being a female shall take under this Will or any Codicil hereto shall belong to such person for her sole and separate use independently of any husband and of his debts control and engagements and her receipt alone shall be an effectual discharge of the same.

I appoint my son Thomas Holloway and my friend John Johnson Meakin aforesaid Farmer Executors of this Will.

     Thomas Holloway, son of George Holloway and Rebecca Yates, died on Sunday, 16 November 1873 in Spondon, Derbyshire, his Death was Registered at the Shardlow Register Office in the Oct-Nov-Dec Quarter of 1873.11,12

     He was buried in Chapel Street Burial Ground, Spondon on Friday, 21 November 1873.1

     Probate for Thomas's Estate was granted on 16 December 1873 at Derby.

     On 13 January 1913 'Spondon Years Ago' - 1st Paper by Mr George Wright of 30 Merchant Ave., Spondon, dated 13 Jan. 1913. Quote - 'the next house now occupied by Mr Priestland, (welcome to him) was occupied by Mr Holloway, Grandfather of Mrs W.Antill and Mrs T.Thompson, Locco Rd. This was a small farmhouse, Mr Holloway milking 3 or 4 cows, his cowshed being on Lystitch Lane.'
