     I enjoyed my chats with her, one was about due. She always sounded so full of enthusiasm for anything she tackled that she was a real inspiration. I assume she has not been ill long as when I last spoke she was doing some research for a book James is writing. [note from Heather Eaton]

George Holloway

     George Holloway, son of Joseph Holloway and Ellen Jackson, was born in 1803.
     He was Baptised on Sunday, 1 May 1803 in St. Michael & All Angels Church, Church Broughton, Derbyshire .1
     

     George Holloway and Mary Dale had a child, Sarah Dale Holloway, born c1822, Mary's next three children were by Jeremiah Greatorex, with whom she lived while her Husband was serving in the Coldstream Guards. When George came home, on his Discharge in November 1833, he and Mary had two more children.
It will be noted that on the 1861 Census, George is stated to be 'a Widower'. It is thought that he considered himself to be a Widower so decided to call himself one, or else the enumerator was local and filled in the form on an assumption as no woman had lived with him in living memory.2


     George Holloway, son of Joseph Holloway and Ellen Jackson, was married to Mary Dale on Monday, 23 February 1824 at All Saints Church, Mugginton, Derbyshire.
     All Saints Church Marriage Register - "Entry #55 - George Holloway of this Parish, Bachelor and Mary Dale of this Parish, Spinster were Married in this Church by Banns this 23 day of February 1824.
     Both made their Marks and Witnessed by John Yeomans and Samuel Cooper.."3
     In 25 September 1824 George Holloway served (an unknown value.)

     George Holloway ended military service on 13 November 1833; Derbyshire Chelsea Pensioners Applications -
W.O. 116/41 13 Nov. 1833 Cold Stream Guards. George Holloway age 30, of 9yrs 2m service, Born Broughton. Labourer.

     George Holloway, son of Joseph Holloway and Ellen Jackson, died in 1871 in Derbyshire, his Death was Registered at the Ashbourne Register Office in the Apr-May-Jun Quarter of 1871.10

     He was buried in St. Oswald's Church, Ashbourne on Monday, 19 June 1871.
     St. Oswald's Church Parish Register Entry - 'Entry #1466 - George Holloway, aged 70 years, of the Union Workhouse, was Buried.11'
