     John Bull, son of John Bull and Elizabeth Goodall, was married to Elizabeth Wrathall, daughter of Thomas Wrathall and Elizabeth Kell, on Thursday, 2 July 1801.
     ; Rev. John Bull and Elizabeth Wrathall were Married. Witnessed by his brother, Daniel Bull and by Thomas Dove.3,4

John reveals that he was born near a tributary of the Dove, a few miles south of Ashbourne, " twas in these borders I first knew a home, / and the pebbly brooks began to roam",
     When he was 'quite young', (probably about 1780) his father removed to Nottinghamshire and settled in Sherwood Forest (p.10 and notes)
     He was educated in Sutton in Ashfield, near Mansfield, in the seminary where he was taught by the Rev. Thomas Cursham (p.12). Cursham died on 16 January 1805 (Gentleman's Magazine, 1805, i.184). Having matriculated at St.Edmund's Hall, Oxford on 14 March 1798, he obtained his B.A. in 1801 he instantly married, by licence, on 2 July 1801, Elizabeth Wrathall, of the City and Diocese of London.
      An important reference to his Mother is on p.152 of Poems & Translations ' The Author here entreats the Reader's indulgence, while he pays a grateful tribute to the memory of a dear mother', She had reached her 78th year, her faculties entire, when she died on 27 May 1814. ' She encouraged her sons to read the Bible, and her youngest son, knowing her regard for that sacred volume, sent her, some years ago, an excellent quarto Bible of a good type from the Society for promoting Christian Knowledge. She will be lamented by her Husband, her Children and her friends ... and by him whose hand writes this, her memory will be always held dear. At the distance of one hundred and fifty miles, he was deprived of the melancholy pleasure of witnessing her tranquil end' in 1814.

     Educated in Sutton in Ashfield, Matriculated at St.Edmunds Hall, Oxford, 14 March 1798, B.A in 1801, M.A. in 1809. Ordained by Bishop Horsby of Rochester, Curate of St.Paul's, Cray, Kent, c1802-1804 and to the sequestrators of Orpington Parish, 1803-1804; Curate of Down and Cudham by 1806, residing at Orange Court, Down, but by January 1813 he left Down. Curate of Belgrave, Leicestershire, but living in Leicester at Huntersgate in 1815, Rutland Street in 1816, Newark Street in 1817-1819 and Pashin Lane in 1820. Head Master of the Grammar School, from 1820, Curate of Yelvertoft from 1820, Curate of Clipston from 2 August 1824, left Clipston in 1840; not traced between 1840 and 1847, when he became perpetual Curate of St.John's, Walthamstow. He resigned in 1851.7

There are Birth and Death Records for a George Ridgard, son of an unmarried Ridgard though in the December Quarter.
     Therefore either Baptism Entry is wrongly ascribed to GEORGE or William's Baptism was not entered."2

KNOW all Men by these Presents that We John Bull of the Parish of Cubley in the County of Derby Yeoman & John Doe Gent are held and firmly bound to Richard Smalbroke Doctor of Law vicar general of the Diocese of Lichfield and Coventry in the sum of one hundred Pounds of lawful Money of Great Britain to be paid to the said Doctor Richard Smalbroke or his certain Attorney Executors Administrators or Assignes for the true Payment whereof We bind ourselves and each of us by himself for the whole and every part thereof and the Heirs Executors and Administrators of us and each of us firmly by these Presents. Sealed with our Seals Dated the twenty thirteenth Day of March. in the 11th Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Third by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith And in the Year of our Lord one Thousand Seven Hundred and seventy one

THE CONDITION of this Obligation is such That if hereafter there shall not appear any lawful Let or Impediment by Reason of any Pre Contract entered into before the twenty fifth Day of March One Thousand Seven Hundred and fifty four Consanguinity Affinity or any other lawful Means whatsoever but that the above bound John Bull Bachelor aged twenty one years & upwards And Elizabeth Moseley of the same parish widow may lawfully solemnize Marriage together and in the same afterwards lawfully remain and continue for Man and Wife according to the Laws in that behalf provided And moreover if there be not at this present Time any Action Suit Plaint Quarrel or Demand moved or depending before any Judge Ecclesiastical or Temporal for or concerning any such lawful Impediment between the said Parties nor that either of them be of any other Parish or better Estate or Degree than to the Judge at granting of the Licence is suggested and by him sworn to before the Revd. Thos. White Clerk Surrogate

And lastly if the same Marriage shall be openly solemnized in the Church or Chapel in the Licence specified between the Hours appointed in the Constitutions Ecclesiastical confirmed and according to the Form of the Book of Common Prayer now by Law established And if the above bounden John Bull do save harmless the said Dr. Rd. Smalbroke his Surrogates and other his Officers whatsoever by Reason of the Premises Then this Obligation to be void or else to remain in full force and Virtue.

     Elizabeth Moseley nee Goodall, daughter of John Goodall and Joan, was married to John Bull, son of John Bull and Mary Goodall, on Sunday, 17 March 1771 at St. Andrew's Church, Cubley, Derbyshire.
     St. Andrew's Church Marriage Register - "Entry #44 - John Bull of this Parish and Elizabeth Moseley of this Parish were Married in this Church by Licence this 17th day of March in the year 1771 by me G Fletcher, Rector. This Marriage solemnized between us John Bull and Elizabeth Goodall 'x her mark'. In the presence of Henry Moseley and John Locker."4

     'family moved to Nottinghamshire in about 1790.5'


     Elizabeth Bull nee Goodall, daughter of John Goodall and Joan, died on Friday, 27 May 1814, in Sutton in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire,""in her 78th. year".", she was survived by her husband John Bull.1

     She was buried, Sutton in Ashfield on Tuesday, 31 May 1814; Parish Register.
