Father* | Samuel Cope born 1721 |

Thomas Cope, son of Samuel Cope and Elizabeth Ford, was born in Newton, Blithfield, Staffordshire, in 1753.
He was Baptised on Monday, 16 July 1753 in St. Leonard's Church, Blithfield, Staffordshire .1
Thomas Cope, son of Samuel Cope and Elizabeth Ford, was married to Sarah Watson on Sunday, 27 January 1771 at Abbots Bromley, Staffordshire.
Thomas Cope was left a Widower on the death of his wife, Sarah on 12 April 1790.
The last record of Thomas Cope or his other sons in Stafford Co. occurs in the spring of 1801, when his son Samuel Cope was paid 12 shillings, 6 pence, for 5 weeks of labor for the Blithfield Overseer of the Poor.1i Cook, op. cit. There are no burial records in the Abbots Bromley, Bramshall or Blithfield Parish Registers for Thomas Cope or any of his sons named above. There are no further records for our Copes in the church Poor Accounts after Easter 1801. There are no marriages after 1798, and no Wills or Admins. The last entry for any of the above Copes in the Estate Account books for Blithfield Hall occurred in 1798 when Thomas Cope received the poor levy of some £11. Sometime after 11 April 1801 (maybe not until 1802, after Thomas' father Samuel died) but prior to 28 September 1804, Thomas Cope and his family left Blithfield in Staffordshire and relocated as tenant farmers to South County Down in Northern Ireland, near the town of Drumballyroney. There they took up lands on the Rathfriland Estate owned by Theodosia Meade (Lady Clanwilliam.)2
