     Horace Cyril Clarke was educated at St. Thomas' School at Heaton Chapel, where he won a Whitworth Art Scholarship and studied at Stockport College of Further Education. He received the City and Guilds Silver Medal in 1934 going on to become a silk designer at Macclesfield Silk.5

     On 23 November 1934 he sailed from London on the SS "Baradine", his destination was Port Said, Egypt (although the ship was bound for Australia). His given address was 2 Arlington Drive, Woodsmoor, Stockport and that his age was 28 years. His Profession was listed as - Teacher.

     From 4 December 1934 to October 1939 he was a Teacher of Woven Fabrics at the School of Applied Art in Cairo, Egypt.

     He came back to England to get married, sailing from Port Said on the SS "Naldera" and arriving at Plymouth on 20 June 1935, his address was given as 2 Arlington Drive.6

     Horace Cyril Clarke, son of Fred Tipper Clarke and Emily Jane Wadsworth, was married to Edith Shaw, daughter of William Shaw and Elizabeth Ellen Johnston, on Thursday, 29 August 1935 at Buittle Parish Church, Buittle, Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland.5
     
     On 14 September 1935 Horace and Edith sailed to Egypt, travelling from London on the Orient Line ship "Orsova". Details - of 2 Arlington Drive, Woodsmoor, Stockport, Art Teacher, landing at Port Said, Egypt.

     They sailed from Port Said to Southampton on the "Scharnhorst" of the Norddeutscher Lloyd line of Bremen arriving on 24 July 1936, there is a passenger list showing that they travelled from Liverpool to Egypt on Anchor Line ship "Tuscania" sailing on 1 October 1936.     Their address was given as 1 Yewlands Drive, Broughton, Preston, Lancashire.7

     They returned to England because of the impending War and settled in Preston, Lancashire, where Edith's father had a Credit Draper's business. Horace worked there until 1956.5

          The U.K. 1939 Registration for England & Wales of 29 September 1939 listed him with William Shaw, at 1 Yewlands Drive, Fullwood, Preston, Lancashire, who is recorded as - William Shaw;     DoB - 14 June 1872     Male;     Draper     Married.8
     Horace's entry for the U.K. 1939 Registration for England & Wales was recorded as -
          Horace C. Clarke;     DoB - 27 August 1906     Male;     Art Teacher     Married.9

     Horace's ID card shows that he lived in 3 houses between 1943 and 1951 -

     19 April 1946 -     46 Chaddock Street, Preston
     8 October 1951 -     11 Westby Road, Lytham St. Annes.10

     Horace Cyril Clarke and Edith Clarke were divorced in March 1956.5

     Horace Cyril Clarke, son of Fred Tipper Clarke and Emily Jane Wadsworth, was married to Dorothy Elizabeth Holmes in Lancashire in 1957.
     Their Marriage was recorded in the Fylde Registration District in the Jan-Feb-Mar Quarter of 1957.11

     His parent, Jean Clarke, died on 31 August 1960; Jul-Aug-Sep Quarter.12

     Edith was also known as Jean Clarke.

     Edith Clarke and Horace Cyril Clarke were divorced in March 1956.2

     Edith Clarke (also known as Jean) was a violinist. In August 1960 she and her daughter, Jennifer, went to a Chamber Music Summer School at Easthampstead Park, Wokingham. Whilst playing her violin, Jean had a heart attack and died. Her body was cremated in Reading with nobody present. There was a memorial service in the Parish Church in St Annes on Sea. Her ashes were buried in her parents' grave in The Haugh of Urr, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland.6

     Jean Clarke, daughter of William Shaw and Elizabeth Ellen Johnston, died on Wednesday, 31 August 1960 in Easthampstead Park Training, Berkshire, her Death was Registered at the Windsor Register Office in the Jul-Aug-Sep Quarter of 1960.7
          Edith Clarke was Cremated in Henley Road Crematorium, Caversham, Reading, Berkshire, on Wednesday, 7 September 1960.

     I have not been able to find the enlistment date for Thomas' Military Service. It is unfortunate that all information for him is his death and memorial.

     Commonwealth War Graves Commision (CWGC) Casualty Records Transcription
     William Stephen Tipper the son of Arthur and Frances Ellen Tipper of "Arnside", 79 King's Avenue, New Malden, Surrey was enlisted at Hampton Hill, Middlesex into the 99th Field Company of the Corps of Royal Engineers. On 4 September 1915 he was sent to France, where he was , at some time, promoted to the rank of Sergeant and had been given the Service Number of 49468.
     On the 13th of September 1916, on service in Flanders, he was Killed in Action.
     Interestingly his CWGC Memorial Inscription is said to be on the "Doiran Memorial" which was erected in the Doirani, Regional Unit of Kilkis in Central Macedonia.
     He was awarded 3 Service medals - The Victory Medal, the British Medal and the 15 Star.5

Both Signed and Witnessed by Alfred William Lane and Annie Maria Lane.1,2

     The 1911 U.K.Census listed her as the Wife of the Head of Household - Arthur Thomas Tipper, at "Napolean Villa", Nursery Road, Sunbury on Thames, Middlesex, who is recorded as -
          Arthur Thomas Tipper     Head     26     Married     Engine Fitter for the Metropolitan Water Board     MDX. Sunbury.3
     Rose's entry for the 1911 Census was recorded as -
          Rose Dorothy Tipper     Wife     Age 22     Married 2 years, (Children born alive: Born: 1. Living: 1. Died: 0.)     ---     KEN. Bexley.3

     Rose Dorothy Tipper was left a Widow on the Death of her husband, Arthur, whose Death was Registered in the Surrey North Eastern Registration District, in the Jul-Aug-Sep Quarter of 1943.4

     Rose Dorothy Tipper died in 1968 in Surrey, her Death was Registered at the Richmond on Thames Register Office in the Oct-Nov-Dec Quarter of 1968.5
