George Harvey

ID# 30939, born 1818
George Harvey was born in Dilhorne, Staffordshire, in 1818.

George Harvey was married to Hannah Gallimore, daughter of Richard Gallimore and Ellen Wood, in All Saints Church, Dilhorne, Staffordshire, on Saturday, 14 April 1849.
Their Marriage was recorded in the Cheadle Registration District in the Apr-May-Jun Quarter of 1849.1

George Harvey was left a Widower on the death of his wife, Hannah between 14 February 1851 and 1859.2

In the U.K.Census of 30 March 1851, George was recorded as residing at Dilhorne, Staffordshire.
     George's listing is -
George Harvey     Visitor     Widower     32     Coal Miner     STS. Dilhorne     (in the household of his sister Emma James and her husband, John, together with his wife's Brother, John Gallimore).3

George had been born in 1818 at Dilhorne, the son of Thomas Harvey. However, by 1851 George Harvey (although shown as being married) was living with his married sister, Emma James, at Dilhorne, along with Hannah’s brother, John Gallimore. Hannah’s whereabouts at that time is unknown and her death has not been found. She was, however, the informant on 27 July 1842 when her grandfather, John Wood, died, and again on 14 February 1851 when her grandmother, Lydia Wood, died, both at Dilhorne Common. When her grandmother died, Hannah advised that she was present at the death but was unable to sign her name, making her mark with a cross, and reverting to her maiden name of Hannah Gallimore. It is possible that Hannah and George divorced, because in 1859 George Harvey married Kezia Challinor, who was aged 22, whilst George was aged 41. Kezia provided George with several children and they settled at Boundary where George changed his occupation from coal mining to farm labouring. However, by 1881 George was unlucky in love once again, and while he lived at Daisy Bank in Dilhorne with two of his children, George jnr. and Ellen, Keziah was living with William Simister with the balance of the children. By the time of the next census in 1891, George and Kezia had not re-united, but they were living next door to each other at Daisy Bank in Dilhorne. George was still with the same two children but Kezia by this time was living with William Heath, a farm labourer from Leigh, and had the two youngest children, Elijah and Martha (now with the surname of Heath) with her. George Harvey was 81 years of age when he died in 1899 at Dilhorne. Free of George at last, Kezia lost no time in marrying William Heath and they were married that same year at St. Giles Church, Cheadle. Kezia Heath died six years after her marriage to William at the age of 69 in 1905 at Cheadle.
