     On 14 September 1935 Horace and Edith sailed to Egypt, travelling from London on the Orient Line ship "Orsova". Details - of 2 Arlington Drive, Woodsmoor, Stockport, Art Teacher, landing at Port Said, Egypt.

     They sailed from Port Said to Southampton on the "Scharnhorst" of the Norddeutscher Lloyd line of Bremen arriving on 24 July 1936, there is a passenger list showing that they travelled from Liverpool to Egypt on Anchor Line ship "Tuscania" sailing on 1 October 1936.     Their address was given as 1 Yewlands Drive, Broughton, Preston, Lancashire.³

     They returned to England because of the impending War and settled in Preston, Lancashire, where Edith's father had a Credit Draper's business. Horace worked there until 1956.²

     Edith was also known as Jean Clarke.

     Edith Clarke and Horace Cyril Clarke were divorced in March 1956.²

     Edith Clarke (also known as Jean) was a violinist. In August 1960 she and her daughter, Jennifer, went to a Chamber Music Summer School at Easthampstead Park, Wokingham. Whilst playing her violin, Jean had a heart attack and died. Her body was cremated in Reading with nobody present. There was a memorial service in the Parish Church in St Annes on Sea. Her ashes were buried in her parents' grave in The Haugh of Urr, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland.⁶

     I have not been able to find the enlistment date for Thomas' Military Service. It is unfortunate that all information for him is his death and memorial.

     Commonwealth War Graves Commision (CWGC) Casualty Records Transcription
     William Stephen Tipper the son of Arthur and Frances Ellen Tipper of "Arnside", 79 King's Avenue, New Malden, Surrey was enlisted at Hampton Hill, Middlesex into the 99th Field Company of the Corps of Royal Engineers. On 4 September 1915 he was sent to France, where he was , at some time, promoted to the rank of Sergeant and had been given the Service Number of 49468.
     On the 13th of September 1916, on service in Flanders, he was Killed in Action.
     Interestingly his CWGC Memorial Inscription is said to be on the "Doiran Memorial" which was erected in the Doirani, Regional Unit of Kilkis in Central Macedonia.
     He was awarded 3 Service medals - The Victory Medal, the British Medal and the 15 Star.⁵

     Lucy Marion Tipper, daughter of Arthur Tipper and Frances Ellen Palin, was born in Sunbury, Middlesex, on Sunday, 4 February 1894, her Birth was Registered at the Staines Register Office in the Jan-Feb-Mar Quarter of 1894.^1,2      She was Baptised on Sunday, 4 March 1894 in St. Mary's Church, Sunbury on Thames, Middlesex .

His older brother William was killed three weeks after he arrived in France.⁵
