     Sarah Ann Smith, daughter of John George Smith and Jane Whiteman, was married to William Lammas, son of James Lomas and Salome Evans, in Haynes, Bedfordshire, on Saturday, 18 July 1885.
     Their Marriage was recorded in the Ampthill Registration District in the Jul-Aug-Sep Quarter of 1885.2

     In 31 March 1891, Sarah Ann Smith is Recorded as Sarah Ann Ashby.

The family lived at Mount Pleasant (now Back Street). Charles enlisted with the Bedfordshires in 1915 and was a Private in the London Yeomanry. Nothing further is known about Charles.6

     Jack Lomas, son of William Lammas and Sarah Ann Smith, was married to Florence Jane Fairey in Clophill, Bedfordshire, in 1908.
     Their Marriage was recorded in the Ampthill Registration District in the Apr-May-Jun Quarter of 1908.4

          In the 1911 U.K.Census, held on Sunday, 2 April 1911, Jack was recorded as the Head of the Household at Back Street, Clophill, Bedfordshire, also in the Household were Florence Jane Lammas and Miriam Violet Lomas,

     Jack Lomas was born in Haynes and was the brother of Joseph Lomas, who is commemorated on our memorial. He lived with his wife, Florence, and daughter, Miriam, in Back Street when he joined the 5th Bedfordshire Regiment in May 1911. Jack signed up for 4 years at the age of 23 years and 2 months. He was a labourer for Lord Lucas. He was stationed in England until July 1915, when he travelled on the “Braemar Castle” from Devenport to Alexandria. He suffered a gunshot wound to his legs in August 1915 and spent 5 weeks in hospital in Cairo. He returned to duty in Egypt and returned to England in April 1916, being discharged in May after 5 years service. Jack was awarded the 1914/15 Star and the British War Medal and Victory Medal.6

In 1911 Joseph lived in Back Street with his parents William and Sarah (nee Smith, born in Haynes.) His parents had had 13 children, 11 of whom had survived. His 10 siblings still lived at home. His father was a labourer and Joseph a farm labourer. By the time of Joseph's death Sarah alone was listed as his next of kin. Joseph served with his brother Jack, who survived the War.4

     Mary's entry for the 1851 Census was recorded as -
          Mary Braybrook     Lodger     Unmarried     21     Straw Plait Maker     BDF: Maulden.1

     Mary Braybrook was married to Allen Ashby, son of Joseph Ashby and Lucy Hart, in Clophill, Bedfordshire, in 1851.
     Their Marriage was recorded in the Ampthill Registration District in the Oct-Nov-Dec Quarter of 1851.2

     The 1861 U.K.Census listed her as the Wife of the Head of Household - Allen Ashby, at 7 Little Lane, Clophill, Bedfordshire, who is recorded as -

Subsequent changes to their Surname by choice; by Marriage or by mis-transcription are used in the events in order that other researchers might find it easier to locate in the records on-line.8
