     As regards her father Walter "Tipper", this may be coyness in view of her illegitimacy, and his surname is probably different - points of evidence to indicate that the marriage is indeed that of Fanny 1885 are (i) that the trade of Weaver given for Walter matches that of her mother Annie, (ii) her illegitimate brother is also named Walter, and (iii)that there are no other good candidates - Fanny 1887 Uttoxeter, the daughter of Walter, is probably too young and her father was a prosperous Plaster Merchant and not deceased.⁸

     World War I service
Herbert enlisted into the Scots Guards on 29 May 1915. He was issued with his Service Number 14020 for short service for the duration of the War (age 21 years 4 months, a Miner of Hanbury, 5' 8", 35" chest, Single).
He served at Lichfield and Caterham, probably for Basic Training and then to France on 5 October 1916. He was promoted to Lance Corporal on 31 July 1916 and Corporal 1 August 1917, to Sergeant on 2 August 1918. During this period he was granted 3 weeks home leave on 17 November 1917. During his service he received 4 reprimands on conduct. Herbert was wounded in action by mustard gas attack on 14 September 1918, he was treated in several hospitals in France returning to the Battalion in the field on 24 October 1918. After the end of the war he returned to Dunkirk and then Clipstoneon 13 January 1919. He was Discharged from Army Service claiming no disability.⁵

     The 1911 U.K.Census  listed him as a son of the Head of Household - Daniel Tipper, at 70 Smestow Street, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, who is recorded as -
          Daniel Tipper     Head     41     Married     Railway Goods Porter     STS. Leek.⁴
     James's entry for the 1911 Census was recorded as -
          James Tipper     Son     17     Single     Tobacconist's Assistant     DBY. Ripley.⁴

     James Thomas Tipper, son of Daniel Tipper and Florence Nightingale Whitehouse, was married to Dorace L. Bowcott in Worcestershire in 1924.
     Their Marriage was recorded in the Stourbridge Registration District in the Jul-Aug-Sep Qtr. of 1924.⁵

     James Thomas Tipper and Dorace L. Tipper were parents of three sons whose births were registered in Dudley.⁶

James Thomas Tipper was listed as an Executor of the Will of Florence Nightingale Tipper, which was Proved and Probate granted on the Estate on 28 June 1929 at Birmingham, Warwicksire,

     James Thomas Tipper, son of Daniel Tipper and Florence Nightingale Whitehouse, died in 1956 in Staffordshire, his Death was Registered at the Dudley Register Office in the Jul-Aug-Sep Qtr. of 1956, He was survived by his wife, Dorace.⁸
