     The details from the Marriage Certificate are - #444 - John Bull, 28, Widower, Farmer of Whiston Eaves, son of John Bull (Deceased), Farmer & Maria Jackson, 35, Spinster of Hulme, daughter of Richard Jackson, Farmer. By Licence. Witnessed by William Enoch Bull and Ann Bull.5

     Maria was the sister of John's first wife Sarah. Strictly speaking that contravened the law of the time, but was fairly commonplace provided a clergyman could be found who was willing to turn a blind eye.


     The 1891 U.K.Census listed her as the Wife of the Head of Household - John Bull, at Wolds Farm, Wymeswold, Leicestershire, who is recorded as -
