               May Sutton was baptised Tutbury 01.03.1874, the daughter of Hannah and Thomas Whittaker, a Farmer; her father Thomas died Tutbury 08.09.1879 and her mother remarried John Stone; May first married Ernest Richard Sutton, a Farmer, in Tutbury 23.04.1895; they had a daughter May Whittaker Sutton baptised Tutbury 15.09.1895, but Ernest Richard died Tutbury 27.08.1897; in 1901 May, aged 26 born Tutbury, stepdaughter of John Stone, aged 59 born Marchington, a Farmer, and Hannah Stone, aged 58 born Walton-on-Trent, was living in Castle Street, Tutbury [?= The Castle], with her daughter May aged 5 born Scropton; at one stage the family were Caretakers at Tutbury Castle, possibly through John Stone; May was educated (in comparison to her new in-laws) and was often called on to write formal letters for the extended Tipper family.3
